A Word That Defines Me

I would say that the word that best defines me is perceptive.

per·cep·tive /pərˈsɛptɪv/ [per-sep-tiv]
–adjective
1.having or showing keenness of insight, understanding, or intuition: a perceptive analysis of the problems involved.
2. having the power or faculty of perceiving.
3.of, pertaining to, or showing perception.

I chose this word because I think I'm pretty good at understanding what people are feeling without necessarily going though the same experience. For some of my friends, I can kind of predict what they're thinking or what they're going to say or do.

* I have to admit that this assignment was kind of hard. I agree with a lot of people who said that there simply isn't just one word that describes them..but I tried to choose a word regardless.

Poe Reader Response

"The Red Death had long devastated the country." (pg 43) The Masque of the Red Death was about a prince who invited all his "friends" to his palace. There were many people dying outside from the Red Death.
The prince had a large party. There were 7 rooms the guests could go into. They were all elegantly decorated - all in a different color. The last room was decorated in black and had a dard red stained window. No one would go into the last room. It had a large clock in it that rang every hour and startled everyone.
The clock rang again and midnight and the Red Death showed up and killed the prince.

"When his dominions were half depopulated, he summoned to his presence a thousand hale and light-hearted friends from among the knights and dames of his court, and with these retired to the deep seclusion of one of his castellated abbeys." (pg 49) The prince was obviously selfish and uncaring. He wanted to give all the important people a big feast while the under-privileged suffered death. He was the prince so this shouldn't have been his approach at all.
I think he simply decided to such a thing because he was a spoiled and selfish man and that was what he was taught to be. He was punished though, by the Red Death, for such cruelty.

I think that the theme of The Masque of the Red Death is escaping death. The prince and everyone that joined his feast, for that matter, were avoiding the outside world in which everyone was dying. They were having a good elegant time while others were suffering.
The most sinful person, the prince, ended up getting what he deserved though, when he was killed by the Red Death - what he'd been avoiding in the first place.
I would say that the author is making a point that you can't escape death; it'll catch up to you sooner or later.

Today In Math

We went over chapters 5-9 in math, or at least attempted to. This class was good because I wasn't in the best mood and Jenna Rae totally cheered me up.
Anyway, I finally (kind of) learned how to determine what the domain and range of an equation is. It's actually not that hard. The domain is the input and the range is the output in an equation (I knew that part). For the domain, you basically have to make sure that denominators never equal zero when you substitute the x with "whatever". If you get a zero with that "whatever" then that number can't work..and you have to figure out which ones do. Then you have to figure out what y can be, and that'll be your answer. Answers are usually something like, "all real numbers except -3" or "all positive integers." I don't know if that makes any sense at all..oh, well.

Today In History

History is one of my favorite subjects. Well, except when we start learning about American history, which we are and I happen to find extremely boring.

Well, today we did some bookwork. Apparently my teacher had to get a substitute yesterday because he felt sick and he wanted all his classes caught up with one another. The assignment we did was about the Revolution which, again, does not interest me in the least. But then again, good grades do interest me, and so I did it anyway.

We also learned that Napoleon was a very short man. Our teacher told us that short people (he used Norma as an example..haha love you) tend to be very loud. ;D

Dogs chew gum?

Can dogs chew gum? Apparently so. I saw my dog chewing gum yesterday, and the worst part is, it wasn't even the first time! She's insane.

Don't judge a movie by it's trailer..?

So I saw Fired Up last night. I didn't think I would even end up watching it because it looked like a stupid movie to me, but I actually liked it..it made me laugh a lot. I don't know what kind of movies you people like but I recommend this one. It's at least better than it looks in the trailer.

Strict Parents?

I sat in my World Literature class today and I had no idea what to write about. Well, it finally came to me.

My parents. It's insane..they were always so lenient. All my life, they would let me hang out with friends without giving me much trouble. Now that I'm getting older, they seem to be getting stricter. I admit that I've been doing more rebellious things lately, but it's not like they even know. And I do suppose it does make partial sense that they're doing this, due to a incident that my mother had to go through, but I always thought that parents got less rigid as their kids got older when it comes down to things like going out. It just frustrates me....I don't feel like I can do anything or go anywhere anymore, and it's a time in my life, if anything, where I should be able to.
